Overview: Montecristo Especial
The Montecristo Especial is a Laguito No. 1 vitola, measuring an outstanding 192mm in length by a 38 ring gauge, giving it a sleek silhouette.
Wrapped with a medium brown Colorado wrapper, the construction is exquisite with the triple cap being finished with a unique pigtail. They are tripa larga, totalmente a mano – long filler, totally handmade using an exclusive blend of tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba.
The Especial No.1 is particularly elegant and provides a unique smoking experience. The draw is snug at first, likely due to the length, but with some patience it opens up nicely. We found full flavours to burst out of this cigar with a rich aged tobacco flavour, surprising for a cigar of this age. As we smoked we found additional flavours of oak, vanilla creaminess and a dash of gingerbread, you can expect a smoking time of around 90 minutes.
This is a particularly complex profile that would benefit greatly from some rest time, 3-5 years could do wonders for it.
